The idea of ecumenicalism in the work of Francis Dvorník
Vavřínek, Vladimír
One of the central themes of the scholarly work of the world renowned Byzantinist of Czech origin Professor Francis Dvorník was the question of the causes and development of the rift between the Western (Catholic) and Eastern (Orthodox) Churches. He examined the beginnings of their conflicts already in his first books devoted to the Cyrillo-Methodian mission in Great Moravia and he dealt in full with his thesis in his major work entitled The Schism of Photius. Dvorník’s ideas won recognition not only in the scholarly world but also, in particular in the connection with the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council, in the Catholic Church.
